As Chief Executive Officer for Quantum 9, Inc., Michael has performed business analysis for some of the largest commercial cannabis cultivation centers in the nation. Michael brings a systematic approach to business process development, technological documentation, and process management. Michael has practiced in the medical marijuana industry for since 2009. Mr. Mayes started his cannabis career by founding Patients for Medical Marijuana (PFMMJ), a non-profit organization in Denver, Colorado. The mission of PFMMJ is to link cannabinoid based botanical medicines specifically targeting the cannabis plant and custom cannabinoid and terpenoid profile formulations as illness combatants and symptom alleviation treatment modalities. From there he helped Critical Mass Industries, Inc. (d.b.a. Good Meds) start cultivation and dispensing efforts in the Denver, Colorado market. As an angel investor, Michael assumed the role as business consultant resulting in the organizational growth culminating in two (2) retail dispensaries and a 90,000 square foot cultivation center. Michael has practical experience with the Colorado Medical Marijuana Enforcement Division and the implementation of the state rules and regulations. In addition, Michael has retained an executive board seat at Critical Mass Industries since 2009, an advisory board seat at Nascent Sciences of Connecticut since 2013 and an advisory board seat at Silver State Wellness of Nevada since 2014. Michael is also a top advisory and industry expert for Vida Cannabis of Nova Scotia, Canada.
As the co-founder and CEO of Quantum 9, Inc., Michael has spent years designing technology and collaborating with countless consultants on the forefront of the cannabis industry. Collaborating with the finest minds and contributing to world-class organizations has been an incredibly enlightening and rewarding experience for him. In addition, he has amassed a comprehensive and award winning team engaged globally for public policy best practices through the prioritization of environmental sustainability and patient care. As a business owner and application development lead, Michael has done years of research into the compliance requirements of many of the most tightly regulated cannabis states in the nation including Colorado, Washington, Connecticut, and Illinois.
Mr. Mayes, started his software architecture and development career as a lead consultant for Microsoft Gold Partner IncWorx Consulting. His work was instrumental in the firm’s acquisition of the 2010 Microsoft SharePoint Partner of the Year Award. This prestigious accreditation was awarded at the Worldwide Microsoft Conference for an enterprise systems migration for the U.S. Department of Energy. The engagement spanned the entire Microsoft suit including Microsoft SharePoint and custom development project migrations. During Michael’s tenure at IncWorx he led international custom software development projects for companies such as Newell Rubbermaid, Unilever, Dell and General Motors; culminating in a project for multi billion-dollar aerospace and defense company General Dynamics
His technology background in custom enterprise software development is an ideal experience to solve the problems he experienced as an owner of legal cultivation and dispensary operations. There, he saw an opportunity to revolutionize the medical and recreational cannabis industry. Quantum 9 enables legal state agencies to implement and manage true regulatory compliance and reverse traceability with minimal effort.
Michael is a member of the International Cannabinoid Research Society (ICRS), contributor to Marijuana Business Daily, quoted in the Chicago Tribune, Tampa Tribune, Yahoo Finance, Tampa Tribune, Sativa Magazine, CBC and the Daily Herald. His media appearances include several CBS and WGN appearances and an international presence on BNN Commodities in Canada. On the public policy front, Michael and his team were instrumental in their work of drafting the Kentucky Medical Marijuana Bill for Senator Perry Clark. Most recently, Michael taught a class for the International Pharmaceutical Academy in Toronto, Canada. He spoke on Cannabis Pharmacology and the effects cannabis has on the endocannabinoid system. Michael was one of the only non-medical representatives within the team of lecture leads due to his advanced knowledge of the subject matter and work within the industry.
