Keynote – Stormy Simon
Stormy joined Overstock.com in 2001 during the formative years of e-commerce, when the company’s revenue was less than $20M and employees numbered under 100. In the beginning, Stormy developed PR in-house, the Books, Music & Movie store, ran the warehouse, and many other processes, positions and departments. She was promoted to VP of Branding in 2004 after writing and producing the iconic “Discover the Secret of the Big O” campaign which contributed to Overstock becoming a household name. She became an SVP in 2007, and oversaw many departments, including Customer Care, Partner Care, Supply Chain, and all marketing divisions, culminating with her becoming president of the company in 2014 with approximately 1600 employees. Stormy is an established e-commerce innovator, pioneer, as well as a proven business leader. In summer 2016, she stepped down as President of Overstock to explore the emerging American cannabis industry.
During her tenure, Overstock became an top 25 e-tailer by traffic and grew to nearly $2B in revenue. Under Stormy’s leadership, Overstock was recognized by numerous associations; 4 consecutive years for Mobile Web Awards, and others for customer care including ranking in the top 4 AMEX/NRF Customer choice awards for the final 6 years the honor was given. Stormy was also personally recognized as a Customer Champion by Gartner 1to1 Media. In 2014 the company was named to Forbes’ list of “America’s 100 Most Trustworthy Companies”.
Stormy was named a Power Player by the NRF’s 2016 The List of People Shaping Retail’s Future, and awarded Top Innovator by Utah Women in Tech awards in 2015. She’s dedicated time to local non-profit boards, including the Columbus Community Center, which provides jobs to adults with mental disabilities, the YWCA advisory board, the Boys & Girls Club, and Jon Huntsman’s Gubernatorial Committee of Economic Development. She also served on the board of Winder Dairy, and has been on the board of directors at Overstock since 2011. She is known for her speeches on the importance of customer experience and empowerment of employees and women. She is proud that during her presidency the female seats at the executive table have increased to 33%.
